Nought-thinking is a state of mind brought about by keeping silent and not engaging in any kind of mental work. From god's perspective, a nought-thinking Schreber can be regarded as a person with widely diminished intellectual capacities. As the gravitational power of Schreber's nerves begins to decrease simultaneously whenever he's approaching this state, Ormuzd, the upper god, might be tempted to retreat from a connection with Schreber altogether. This withdrawal will be accompanied by the emergence of ray-induced sounds and noises aiming at a further distraction of Schreber's mind.

In order to prevent Daniel Paul Schreber from entering a state of nought-thinking, Ariman, the lower god, would initiate the bellowing wonder, thereby forcing Schreber to utter loud screams which would drown out the sounds and noises.
